The Soviet built Kiev 88 single
lens reflex medium-format camera is a good value in medium-format photography. The Kiev 88
is for photographers wanting an affordable medium format camera. The camera has a bright
viewfinder, precision focal plane shutter, interchangeable 6 x 6cm and 6 x 4.5cm roll film
magazines, instant proofing back, and other full range of accessories. The body is made of
die-cast aluminum alloy with scratch resistant black vinyl covering. It includes a hot
shoe with synchronous center contact for accessories. Two interchangeable eye-level
pentaprism viewfinders are available, one with and the other without built-in TTL exposure
metering, and both Pentaprism include a 3X eyepiece magnification. The TTL prism has
center- weighted metering with LED readout. Shutter speed range from 1/2 to 1/1000 second,
plus bulb, with flash sync from 1/2 to 1/30 second. The lenses are sharp and available in
focal lengths from 30mm to 250mm including a 30mm fish eye and a 55mm shift, 45mm and 65mm
wide-angle, 80mm standard, 120mm, 150mm, and 250mm telephotos. Accessories for KIEV 88
include extension tubes, teleconverters, special grips, lens hoods, Polaroid and roll-film
backs. The Kiev 88 comes with 80mm lens, case, filters, 120 back, waist level finder, and
cable release. For under $700 you can own this Russian Hasselblad.
