Nik Multimedia Dfine 1.0 Plug-in

Digital photography offers power, flexibility, and control. When capturing images, all digital cameras create small, unwanted imperfections among image details known as 'noise' that can be reduced to create even better, more natural digital photos. Reducing noise while balancing image details, color, and light can increase the quality of virtually every digital photo.

Dfine targets noise and unwanted imperfections that may be a part of your image and allows you to control and redefine image details. Perform noise reduction, JPG artifact reduction, and enhance color and light to create better photographic prints.

Dfine adapts to your needs and the needs of each individual image. Target specific noise or selectively enhance the image with a variety of specially designed digital photographic features.

Shoot your images, define details, and edit your images. Better digital images come from using the right tools at the right time. Prepare your digital images for the image editing process. Dfine your digital photos first and get better results.

Use the 'Quick Fix' pull-down menu to visually choose the noise strength presenting your image, or use a custom camera profile to reduce noise for the type of camera you use.

Take advantage of a wide range of professional features in Dfine. Analyze noise and image detail with a 'reveal' analysis mode, optimize noise reduction using camera-specific profiles, control the relationship of detail, noise, and color, customize image profiles for better digital workflow, and much more.

Selectively reduce noise using a range of predefined tools such as detail-specific brushes for sky, skin, and other types of detail. Take advantage of pressure-sensitive graphics tablet features, selectively apply print-optimized noise reduction, and much more. Get even more refined control and selectively apply Dfine enhancements for your camera using camera-specific profiles.

For added control, Dfine can be applied selectively to any image and incorporate pressure sensitive pointing device functionality.

Dfine is an Adobe Photoshop® compatible plug-in, compatible with Adobe® Photoshop® and Photoshop® Elements.
Dfine is developed for Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP and Mac OS 9 & Mac OS X systems.
Dfine includes a pressure sensitive Dfine selective 1.0 application module, compatible with Adobe® Photoshop® and Photoshop® Elements for Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP and for Mac OS X.

Features
Custom Camera Profiles enables you to fine-tune the noise reduction process by utilizing additional custom camera profile modules for Dfine
Camera profiles from Dfine target noise based on the individual camera and the manner in which it processes the image.
By identifying various colors in the image where noise should be reduced, varying levels of noise can be reduced in a natural and dynamic fashion in a digital image.
Each of the 4 main features in Dfine contains a variety of methods for reducing noise and enhancing color and light.
The Luminance Noise feature enables the reduction of luminance noise.
The Chrominance Noise & Artifacts feature is designed to reduce the appearance of chrominance (color) noise structures throughout the image.
The Contrast & Light feature offers a variety of light and contrast adjustments. In this step, options are provided for brightening an image, compensating for counter-light, and making tonal adjustments to correct and improve images
The Color Cast & Balance option enables users to adjust and enhance color in an image. Adjustments for color balance, saturation, and color temperature are available
Dfine includes an additional Photoshop® compatible tool that enables you to selectively apply noise reduction using a variety of detail-specific brushes.
All Dfine Selective brushes support pressure sensitivity offered by graphics tablets, providing up to 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity and control.
Dfine Selective brushes are also fully compatible with any mouse or other pointing device in Windows 95 through XP and Mac OS X.
The Dfine Interface was designed to provide you with the most control and feedback within the noise reduction process.
Multiple preview windows allow various levels of detail to be seen, an analysis mode provides extra contrast and visibility for problem noise areas, and the Grab and Drop feature enables quick access to any portion of the image
Image histograms are available for each preview showing the distribution of pixels before and after the Dfine process, and 8 Single-Click Presets allow quick access to previously saved settings.
The Quick Fix method is provided for users who want a quick global fix for noise and related color and light adjustments
Simply compare the image to a list of intensities of noise and color via the pull-down menu and then select the setting that best matches the condition of the image
Dfine provides one Quick Fix method for each of the four steps in Dfine. Dfine applies the associated level of noise reduction or light corrections for the Quick Fix method chosen. When accessed through the Dfine Selective tool, the Quick Fix methods can be applied selectively for even more cont
Dfine offers 8 Single-Click Presets that enable users to save and access frequently used settings for the lighting conditions or types of images captured.
Presets can be created for a variety of uses, including for example, indoor or outdoor photos, for portraits that are captured with studio lights, for night-time photos, or for any custom setting that might be recalled and used again quickly.
Presets can also be used to store and recall a camera profile that has been installed and loaded at least once.
Dfine provides a variety of tools for adjusting light and contrast. The Counter-Light Reduction tool enables you to compensate for backlit conditions.
Dfine offers a complete set of features for previewing and working with your image in the noise reduction and detail optimization process.
Multiple preview modes enable you to view the image using a single large preview, two side-by-side landscape oriented previews, two side-by-side portrait oriented previews, or a five-window analysis preview.
A Real-time Preview Update enables you to see image changes as you make them.
The Reveal Analysis Mode illustrates the changes in image detail, enabling you to observe and control such changes during the detail optimization process.
The Grab and Drop feature allows you to grab any specific detail or image feature and drop a duplicate view of that detail into an adjacent window, enabling you to compare sensitive detail in the before and after image.
