Tripods
Tripods are the most overlooked
accessories. For good compositions and sharp photographs, a tripod is absolutely
essential. Buy a sturdy tripod that will support the longest lens you own. These may be a
bit heavier but will reduce vibrations during exposures by a great deal. Operating a
tripod at ground level is also important. Tripods with centerposts that can be inverted
are available in many models but are very difficult to operate. Inverting the centerpost
and trying look between the tripod legs not to mention trying to operate the camera
upside-down. Purchase a tripod with legs that can be extended. Tripod heads are another
thing to consider. Pan/tilt heads offer precise operations. Each adjustment is done by a
different control handle. Ball heads offer much faster operations by having only one
control handle. They are easier to use but for precise framing Pan/tilt heads are better
choice. Regardless of which head you choose for your tripod, consider a quick release
system. This is a plate that can be attached to the tripod socket of your camera or lens
and be mounted on the tripod head. This will speed up operation when changing camera or
lenses. Gitzo, Bogen, and Slik are the best choices in tripods. Which model to choose from
depends on the type of photography you do and the equipment you own. The best way to
purchase a tripod is by visiting your dealer and trying different types. It is a good idea
to take your camera and lens with you so you can attach them to the tripods to make sure
they will work fine.

Bogen
All Bogen tripods use hard finish, high strength
aluminum alloys and most are available in bright aluminum or black anodized finishes.
Better materials and better design are incorporated to resist wear and remain rigid and
stable with heavy use and abuse. All models employ a clamping system for leg length
adjustment that resists fouling and scoring. They stay secure under rough field
conditions. The legs are keyed internally to keep all the locks aligned and accessible.
The tripods feature removable heads, but there's a unique locking system to make sure that
you don't remove the head unless you want to. Most models feature adjustable leg angles.
Some have three click stops, some have infinite adjustment.
